Doesn't it seem like we've had a million first days of school this year? Oh well. Every one's a party! The Korean school year starts in March, so Jensie moved up to third grade this morning and Asher started first grade. We attended the school's "entrance ceremony" and met their teachers. Met is an exaggeration. They smiled at us, we smiled at them, and then we all stared at each other for a little while. Asher needs to hurry up and learn to speak Hangul already. Anyway, enough chit-chat. Pictures!
A Korean soldier came along to help us interpret. Every time we asked him what the teacher was saying, he'd smile and say "I have no idea."
Munchkins! First graders in Korean party hats.
Jensie and the Katusa just having a little chat...in Korean.
Look who doesn't hate school anymore.
Ash-yo
Get to class, Jensie.
Welcome to school packet. I can't read it but I'm sure it's full of useful information.
Asher's new classroom. School starts bright and early Monday morning.
Let's talk about how awesome Korean food is, again. Today's menu included rice, beef bulgogi, cabbage kimchi, zucchini kimchi, bone broth, and a pile of funky looking mushrooms. Jensie gobbled it up. Well done, girl.

I am so excited and amazed about how fast Jensie transitioned to Korean school. Don't you just feel so validated about making that crazy choice?! And how great for Asher. Good luck. You guys were braver than us and I can just say kudos. :-)
ReplyDeleteValidated? Completely. It was the right decision, no doubt about it. Asher still has no idea what he's really gotten himself into, but as we left the school a million darling little boys were yelling "Annyeong Ashyo!" and I know he'll make friends in no time. He's been hoping to make Korean friends since the day we got here so this may turn out to be a dream come true for all of us.
DeleteGahh! I forgot about your haircut. You freaking rock. Your kids freaking rock. That lunch freaking rocks. Except for the kimchi.
ReplyDeleteIf you came to Korea you'd learn to love kimchi. I don't love the cabbage but the cucumber mint is to DIE for.
DeleteWow Wow Wow. Everything is so darned cool, and you're all doing a marvelous job maximizing the entire experience. I am so pleased and excited for you. Everyone looks simply amazing. Thanks very much for the pictures. Love looking at each one -- love each one of you !
ReplyDeleteLiving the dream. Your family is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!

바이 바이!
Gobbled up her lunch. With CHOPSTICKS! That girl's got more skills than I have. Fancy swimming breathing skills, chopstick skills, speaking Korean skills.
ReplyDeleteWe just watched a Yo Gabba Gabba on how "being different is AWESOME!" I think he's right; to a point. Like being the only white kid in a class of Korean kids? Awesome. Being the only ugly person in room full of pretty people? Not awesome. Also, I hated Dixon.
